August is the time when the world of baseball shines on both men and boys (and this year a dominate girl pitcher). The Little League World Series has begun and when it is all over we will have a true world champion crowned in South Williamsport, PA. Chances are that champion will either be from the US (50%), Taiwan (26%), or Japan (14%) based on past wins. However if you factor in the last five years Japan’s chances improve to (60%) as they have won 3 of those tournaments. This photo was taken on a fall day in October outside a park in Urayasu, Japan. Urayasu which is literally Tokyo Disneyland’s backyard has a collection of neighborhoods and apparently Mickey is not the only thing on these kid’s minds. While Americans have mostly switched over to our number one sport (American football) in the fall many in Japan are still focused on our old number one sport (baseball). It should be no surprise that the strength of Japanese baseball continues to grow

. This month Japan also holds a national high school baseball tournament (Koukou Yakyuu) that rivals in popularity the bowl season or the NCAA basketball tournament. Maybe this year’s pitching phenom, Mo’ne Davis, can continue to amaze everyone and give us a fighting chance against our rivals for baseball’s only true world tournament.
