The Pineapple Motif and Why We Love It

Since Columbus brought pineapples to Europe, the world’s love for the fruit and everything about it has never faded. The fruit is not only admired for its taste but its form. Pineapple as a motif for functional and artistic material developed quickly in Europe due to its unique and regal appearance. As early as the 1600s people were using pineapple as a pattern in architecture, linens, furniture and just about anything else you can think of. In Hawaii because of its connection with the development of the state the pineapple design is even more prevalent in form and function.
